Current inspections of alcohol carried out by CAFIA inspectors
Since Friday, 7th September, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) has been intensively checking sellers and producers of alcohol. These inspections relate to the occurrence of methanol poisoning.
With regard to the current state, Director General of CAFIA, Mr. Jakub ?ebesta, announced on 10th Monday so-called extraordinary situation (emergency situation pursuant to internal provisions of CAFIA)。 CAFIA therefore deployed its entire staff. All 215 inspectors are carrying out inspections in the field and the number of inspections increased multiple times compared to usual conditions. The Inspection Authority closely co-operates with the General Directorate of Customs of the CR and Public Health Protection Bodies.
The inspectors check in particular market halls, stalls, smaller shops, and producers. If CAFIA detects occurrence of suspicious spirit drink, sample is taken immediately, the place is sealed, and measure not to put the lot in question on the market is imposed.
